Jeff Tarpinian joined Mike and Seth to talk about the first day of Texans Training camp, changes within the program as well as the return of Andre Johnson.
Hub Arkush, chicagofootball.com, joined MaD Radio to talk all things NFL. He feels that it really doesn’t matter where the NFL draft is so it really doesn’t matter if they move where they hold it. Arkush is confused by Andre Johnson’s recent behavior and really cannot see him going elsewhere so it should get resolved. He thinks that the best case scenario when it comes to Fitzpatrick is that he somehow becomes a much better quarterback than he has been so far. He really thought Fitzpatrick was just being brought on as a backup and the quarterback situation is the only problem he has with the way the team is right now. He thinks Bill O’Brien is the right guy to coach the Texans but he isn’t sure if he has enough to work with to turn the team around. Arkush thinks Johnny Manziel has a tough road ahead of him at quarterback but that he will be fun to watch.
Today on MaD Radio, Mike and Seth discussed the possibility of Seth starting to work for the Uber cab service. He explained why he wants to give it a try and his thoughts on the service in general. Seth has already passed the online background check and has wanted to be a cab driver since he was a kid. He also discussed some of the misgivings that he is having about trying it like the fact that he is somewhat of a public figure. Seth thinks it would be fun to pick up athletes and take taxi cab confessionals of drunk people.
T. D. Williams, Medium.com, joined MaD Radio to discuss an article he wrote on Daryl Morey. Williams explained why he has been critical of Morey because he hasn’t taken Houston “to the promised land” yet. He said he isn’t against the use of analytics in basketball, but says they have to be used careful. He said that Morey has created what he calls a “treadmill team” and doesn’t agree with his decision to not bring Chandler Parsons back. Williams said that he hasn’t felt Houston has really contended yet as they should have. He doesn’t think Morey is a terrible GM and he thinks the story has been over reported.
Jim Callis, MLB.com, joined MaD Radio to discuss the Brady Aiken situation. He said that he thinks that the Astros will still sign Aiken. Callis discussed what happens when a player fails their physical and how the team is at an advantage because they only have to pay forty percent of that players assigned value. He said that though Aiken can play right now, the Astros are more concerned about his future play. He also discussed Casey Close’s comments on the situation and hit briefly on Mark Appel.
Fran Blinebury, nba.com, joined MaD Radio to discuss the most recent developments in the NBA. He said that the Rockets are not going to be contenders this year with their current lineup and will just have to try again next year. He said it’s hard to say whether or not the Rockets should have re-signed Parsons but he thinks they probably should have gone for it. Blinebury spoke about the journey the Rockets have been on so far with getting James Harden and Dwight Howard, but this situation with losing out in free agency has been a bit of a setback for the team.
