It was just a season ago that the Houston Texans had captured the AFC South Division by a mere game over the upstart Indianapolis Colts. En route to doing that, some had the Texans as the surprise team that might come out of the AFC to reach their first-ever Super Bowl.
Hank Bauer, color analyst for the Chargers, joined The Fred & Ted Show to talk about the Chargers playing the Texans on Monday. He said not to count the Chargers out of the game because you never know what will happen. The match up to watch for in the game definitely comes down to Watt versus Fluker on the field. Bauer talked about how the offense’s goal is going to be to run the football and get it down the field. He thinks the Chargers can only make the playoffs if they keep all their starters healthy.

Jacques Cesaire, former Chargers player, joined Patrick Creighton and Travis Johnson to talk about the Chargers. He said the media in San Diego really hasn’t been as hard on Manti Teo as other cities would have been. He described Dwight Freeney as a beast in the pre-season and said he will be “dangerous” this season. Cesaire said if they keep Philip Rivers healthy then they should be good to go. He says the Texans will really miss having Antonio Smith on the field with them against the Chargers in the opener.
Michael Gehlken, beat writer for the San Diego Union Tribune, joined Patrick Creighton and Travis Johnson to talk about the San Diego Chargers. He talked about how Philip Rivers has a knack for being where he needs to be as quarterback. Gehlken discussed the lack of use of Manti Teo and that he will likely not play in the opener. He discussed other guys to watch for in the opener against the Texans.
Chargers center Nick Hardwick joined Patrick Creighton and Travis Johnson to talk about the up coming match up with the Texans. He talked about the work the Chargers have been doing on their O line. Hardwick said the team has come a long way in terms of their defense. To that end, he talked about there being a lot of new blood on the team all the way up through the management. They are excited to get into the season with a fresh outlook on things.
