Matt Barrows, covers the 49ers for the Sacramento Bee, joined The Fred & Ted Show to talk about Sunday’s match up between the Texans and the 49ers. He said the 49ers are looking to do better as they haven’t been playing up to their high standards from last year. Barrows discussed why the read option has been used less frequency this season due to teams practicing to combat other teams using the read option.
Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young came on The Fred & Ted Show to talk about his view of Matt Schaub. Young says Schaub does the simpler things wrong and he thinks maybe he can’t overcome that. He says how Schaub moves forward this weekend will say a lot about him and where he goes from here. He thinks he is capable of doing it, but that it will not be easy for Schaub to make it happen. He also compared Schaubs style of play versus other quarterbacks.
Daniel Flynn joined The Fred & Ted Show to talk about his book “The War on Football.” Flynn explores in his book why he thinks football is actually the safest that it has ever been. He says keeping younger boys from sports like football does them a large disservice because they could be learning valuable things and getting good exercise. He believes the lawyers in the concussion lawsuit are over stating things.
Author Jeff Benedict joined The Fred & Ted Show to talk about his new book on college football, The System. He talked about how it deals with the glory and the ugly side of the game. Benedict talked about how he went about getting information on the different schools for this book. He explained that college football doesn’t seem to be bringing in a lot of money because it is actually such an expensive sport.
It’s time for a change at the most important position.
Steve Sandmeyer, 1090 The Fan in Seattle, joined The Fred & Ted Show to talk about the Seahawks playing the Texans this Sunday. He talked about how to stop Russell Wilson from making plays. Wilson talked about the Seahawks reputation as having a “nasty defense.” He also gave insight to Pete Carroll as coming to his own as coach in Seattle.
Gil Kuta, CBS Sports in Baltimore, joined The Fred & Ted Show to discuss the up coming Texans versus Ravens game this Sunday. He talked about the likelihood that Ed Reed and Ray Rice would play in this week’s game where the rule should be if they aren’t ready to go then they shouldn’t play. He commented on the transition in leadership in the Baltimore defense after losing several of their leaders last year. Kuta said that the Ravens can only win by shutting J.J. Watt down, confusing Matt Schaub and having an effective offense.
Solomon Wilcots joined The Fred & Ted Show to talk about the Houston Texans. He talked about how in the NFL, teams should never assume a team they are playing will be easy as the Texans found out these last two games. Wilcots talked about how Wade Philips and the Texans are trying to prepare themselves to play the Patriots down the road. He said that Schaub is answering the critics strongly in the way he pushed through with these game winning drives in the first games of the season. He also touched on how Kubiak making these new plays is a sign of his evolution as a coach.
Theresa Walker of Associated Press joined The Fred & Ted Show to talk about this week’s Texans and Titans match up this Sunday. She talked about how Jake Locker has performed and how she expects he will moving forward. She looked at key players who will make a difference in this match. Walker said there is definitely a rivalry between the Texans and the Titans, but it’s more that everyone is gunning for the Texans.
