Lan’s MaD Nugs 3-21

You can catch up on what you may have missed or want to hear again from today’s edition of MaD Radio right here.

My biggest takes from today’s show:

  • Seth Payne once had a criminal deported back to Nigeria.
  • Bill Simmons had nice things to say about James Harden, but doesn’t sound the same since his failed attempt to leave the four-letters, it’s almost like the experience stripped all of his sports knowledge and confidence. He’s like the media version of the current Golden State Warriors basketball team.
  • Speaking of the Golden State Warriors… It’s amusing how much they complain about stuff that shouldn’t matter. According to Chris B. Haynes of ESPN.com they are unhappy that the Oklahoma City Thunder didn’t lay out the red carpet for Kevin Durant when he made his return. I confess I may have slightly fabricated my interpretation of the column.
  • Meltser thinks Texans fans are panicking, but I get a sense that they are just waiting to see what happens with Romo before they react either way about the state of the current QB situation.
  • Jeff Cavanaugh (@jc1053) of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas and the Trust The Tape Podcast says that Jerry Jones is being outnumbered by the Cowboys’ front office in the Tony Romo situation.
  • Quote of the show: “I don’t drink sodas, which made parties difficult growing up.” – Mike Meltser

Now here are a few things that didn’t make the show that are on my mind…

— I’m amused by sports fans that feel obligated to pretend that they’re entertained by the NCAA Men’s Tournament. Just because there are upsets or close games doesn’t mean that it’s a good on-court product. It’s especially amusing when someone watched the last 30 seconds of a game and then talks about how great the game was. Unless you are sitting through an entire game, which few people are, you can’t logically argue that it’s a good basketball product. ICYMI: Here are my 10 Reasons Why March Madness Sucks.

— Am I an A-Hole (this is a question I will ask daily) for being somewhat annoyed that Verne Lundquist has a year-long farewell tour that concluded with a tearful goodbye, but is still calling basketball games during March Madness? Serious Question: Is he going to get another tour when he quits calling basketball and golf?

— Did this South African soccer player shout out his wife and side piece in the same post-game interview or did he make an honest mistake?

— There’s no bigger media ass kicking than radio hosts, analysts and former NBA Players complaining about how coaches decide to rest their players during the regular season. It’s illogical fake outrage at it’s worst. I will elaborate on it at a later date, but I don’t feel like wasting the typing right now.

— I don’t dislike Duke as much as most appear to, but the fact that they as the 2-seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament had to play the 7-seed, South Carolina, in the state of South Carolina is a joke. I know that politics had a lot to do with it because of the debate/boycott due to bathroom laws preventing games from being in North Carolina (I’m not getting political), but that’s not right either way you look at it.

— There is not a college basketball coach I’d more like to have a beer with than West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins. In fact, I cannot even think of a close second.

— There is not a college basketball coach whose daughter I’d least rather date and have to meet on that first date than South Carolina head coach Frank Martin. In fact, I cannot even think of a close second.

— 50 Tyson will always be the GOAT of the internet. Many have tried, but none will ever succeed.

— Drake’s new album, My Life, is worth purchasing. It’s very laid back, relaxing and worth getting. It’s not his best work, but it’s worth getting.

— Today’s celebrity birthday whose party I would most like to attend: Barron Trump, who turns 11. I would just like to see how the son of a billionaire celebrated his 11th birthday.
