Tim Duncan scored 21 points, Tony Parker added 17 and the Spurs beat the Los Angeles Clippers 102-99 on Sunday night to win their second-round matchup 4-0 and advance to the Western Conference finals.

“They played great, they made it tough on us,” Parker said. “The last 2 minutes we got the stops we needed. Everybody did something.”

The Spurs extended their winning streak to 18 games and their playoff record to 8-0, tying the third-best postseason streak in franchise history.

“Until we go all the way, I can’t compare this team,” said Parker, who has won three NBA titles with the Spurs. “We’re just trying to stay focused.”

Danny Green and Gary Neal added 14 points each, andManu Ginobili and Thiago Splitter had 11 each.

“We needed a game like that. It arrived at the perfect time,” Parker said. “We battled. We executed our plays, made big baskets.”

San Antonio could find out as soon as Monday night who it will play next. Oklahoma City leads the Lakers 3-1 in their series, with Game 5 on Monday.

“We haven’t done anything yet. We’ve won two rounds,” Duncan said. “We haven’t done anything so you can’t qualify or classify our team as anything other than that we’ve gotten this far.”

The Spurs trailed much of the fourth until tying the game twice in the final 3:32 before their 30-something trio of Duncan, Parker and Ginobili took over most of the scoring.

“Their experience showed with their execution,” Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro. “Tim looks great and the rest of the guys are feeding off that.”

Chris Paul had 23 points and 11 assists, Blake Griffin added 21 points, and Eric Bledsoe had 17 for the Clippers, who blew a six-point lead in the fourth quarter when Paul faltered in the final two minutes, usually a time when the All-Star guard is at his best.

“We had our opportunities and we couldn’t convert,” Del Negro said. “We made our mistakes at some key moments and that was the difference.”

Both nursing injuries, Griffin and Paul combined to score 21 of the Clippers’ 28 points in the third quarter when they took their first lead of the game. In the fourth, Bledsoe came up big, scoring 11 in a row, to extend the lead to 90-85 with 5:38 remaining.

After Reggie Evans missed two free throws, Green hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 92.

Duncan’s hook put the Spurs in front 96-94 before Paul tossed up a one-handed shot that rose to the top of the backboard before dropping straight in as he crashed into a baseline photographer. He made the free throw to put the Clippers ahead by one.

Parker scored consecutive baskets and the Spurs regained the lead, 100-97, with 1:47 left.

Paul’s two free throws drew the Clippers within one. After a timeout, Paul drove the basket and lost the ball. He fouled Green, who made the first and missed the second to keep the Spurs ahead for good.

“I messed up, bad decisions,” Paul said, holding his 2-year-old son on his lap. “I should have shot it and I missed the shot, all on me.”

Paul then missed another shot, and Mo Williams fouled Parker, who missed the first and made the second with a second left.

“To let my team down in that situation is probably the toughest part of the season,” Paul said. “We scrapped, we played hard. At the end of the day, playing hard isn’t always enough. You got to execute. On that last play, at least we could have gotten a shot off and I turned the ball over.”

DeAndre Jordan added 10 points. Paul had best performance of the series after sub-par efforts in the first two games. He’d been playing with a strained right hip, while Griffin has a sprained right knee, an injured left hip and got stitches for a cut lip in the first half.

Neither team led by more than five points in the third period. Duncan had 10 points for the Spurs. Bledsoe’s putback slam dunk gave the Clippers 75-74 lead going into the fourth.

The Spurs stretched their lead to 12 points with Duncan sitting out the opening 7 minutes of the second quarter.

The Clippers closed on a 14-6 run to trail 51-47 at halftime. Paul got it started with a 19-foot jumper and ended it with a 3-pointer. Early in the spurt, Griffin ran into Ginobili’s shoulder, fell and one of his top teeth went through his lip. He left the court with 2:20 remaining to get two stitches on the inside and outside of his lip.

Los Angeles began the game on a 9-4 run before San Antonio scored 14 unanswered points, reminiscent of its 24-0 third-quarter spurt Saturday that led to the Spurs’ eventual 10-point victory in Game 3.

Notes: Duncan, Parker and Ginobili played in their 130th postseason game together, the most played as an active trio in the league. … Duncan finished with nine rebounds, just short of notching his 135th career playoff double-double. … The Clippers have lost all seven of their playoff series after losing Game 1. … The Spurs had a 40-36 edge on the boards, while the Clippers outscored them in the paint, 56-50.

With Chris Bosh injured and back in Florida, the James-Wade tandem saved the Heat, who will host Game 5 on Tuesday night at AmericanAirlines Arena.

James was at his MVP best, adding 18 rebounds and nine assists and refusing to let Miami’s season slip away. Wade rebounded from the worst playoff game of his career, shaking off a 1 of 8 shooting start and adding nine rebounds and six assists.

Danny Granger scored 20 to lead the Pacers.

The Sixers were a team reborn in the second half and played like a squad that refused to roll over for the championship-tested Celtics. They tied the series at 2-2 and guaranteed a return home for one more game.

Iguodala, one of the more maligned athletes in recent Philadelphia history, put the Sixers ahead 85-83 and buried a 3-pointer for a five-point lead.

Game 5 is Monday in Boston.

Iguodala scored 16 points, Evan Turner had 16 and Lou Williams added 15.

Kevin Garnett had his first bad outing in an otherwise monster series with nine points. With Garnett in a funk, so were the Celtics.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Tim Duncan scored 19 points, helping engineer a 24-0 run in the third quarter after the Spurs trailed by 24 points, and San Antonio defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 96-86 on Saturday to take a commanding 3-0 lead in their second-round playoff series.

Tony Parker added 23 points, rookie Kawhi Leonard 14 and Manu Ginobili 13 to help the top-seeded Spurs win their 17th in a row and improve to 7-0 in the playoffs.

Blake Griffin had 28 points and 16 rebounds, and reserve Mo Williams added 19 points for the Clippers, who face some daunting NBA history heading into Game 4 on Sunday at Staples Center. No team has ever rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win a series.

Playing with a left hip injury and a sprained right knee, Griffin missed just three shots in the first half, when he scored 20 points and the Clippers led by 24. Slowed by a strained right hip, Chris Paul finished with 12 points and 11 assists after two previous sub-par efforts in the series.

After a quiet first half in which he scored eight points, Duncan helped the Spurs control the third quarter when they outscored Los Angeles 26-8.

The Spurs took their first lead during a 23-0 run on a fadeaway jumper by Duncan, who scored nine points in the outburst that put them ahead for good. Danny Green added seven and Leonard five. The Clippers’ defense completely faltered and they piled up miss after miss on the offensive end.

The Clippers scored the final four points of the period, which ended with a turnover by Mo Williams, to trail 69-61 heading into the fourth.

San Antonio led by 11 points early in the fourth before the Clippers got within seven on consecutive baskets by Williams. Gary Neal hit a 3-pointer to launch a 13-9 spurt, capped by Parker’s 3-pointer, that extended the Spurs’ lead to 89-78. Paul, so dominant in the final period during the regular season, was limited to four points.

Reggie Evans, a defensive spark for the Clippers off the bench, missed 6 of 8 free throws in the final 3:42.

The Spurs were 9 of 22 from 3-point range, with Leonard hitting three.

Los Angeles came in 2-1 at home in the playoffs and 24-9 during the regular season. With their red-clad sellout crowd on its feet, the Clippers were still shooting 63 percent midway through the second quarter, when Griffin’s one-handed dunk kept them ahead by 20 points.

The Spurs closed the half on a 15-5 spurt, with Parker and Ginobili scoring five each, to trail 53-43 at the break. Griffin missed just three of his 13 shots in the first half, when the Clippers controlled the boards and the paint.

The Clippers opened the game with a rush, outscoring the Spurs 33-11 while shooting 64 percent. Los Angeles ended the first quarter on a 20-2 run, including 14 in a row. Griffin scored 12 points in the spurt, hitting eight straight while the Spurs committed six turnovers and made just five of 20 field goals.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kobe Bryant didn’t miss on 18 free throws and scored 14 of his 36 points in the fourth quarter, and the Los Angeles Lakers rallied late for a 99-96 victory over Oklahoma City in Game 3 on Friday night, cutting the Thunder’s second-round series lead to 2-1.

Metta World Peace swiped the ball from Kevin Durant and hit two free throws with 12.9 seconds left for the third-seeded Lakers, who shook off the memory of their late collapse in Game 2. When Kevin Durant missed a 3-pointer, and Andrew Bynum blocked Serge Ibaka’s shot at the buzzer, the Lakers’ frenzied crowd celebrated their second win in the last six playoff games.

Durant scored 31 points before missing his last shot for Oklahoma City, which could have moved to the brink of its second straight trip to the Western Conference finals.

Game 4 in this back-to-back set is Saturday night.

The Sunday riot at the privately run Adams County Correctional Center in southwest Mississippi began around 2:40 p.m. CDT and involved dozens of inmates before it was brought under control that night.

Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield told the Natchez Democrat that 15 employees were freed at one time during the uprising by opening a fence and protecting the route with guns. The sheriff said in a statement early Monday that there were at least two dozen hostages being held at one time.

Adams County Coroner James Lee confirmed that a guard died, but said he could not provide any other details until the correctional officer’s family was notified. In addition to the guard who was killed, five other correctional officers and three inmates were injured.

Emilee Beach, a spokeswoman at the Adams County Correctional Center said that after the disturbance was brought under control Sunday night, inmates were being searched and sent back to their cells.

Beach said the prison, owned and operated by Corrections Corp. of America, holds illegal immigrants, most for charges of re-entering the United States after being deported.

The five injured guards were taken to a hospital and treated for injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.

The 2,567-bed prison in Natchez houses adult male illegal immigrants for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

CCA spokesman Steve Owen confirmed in an email “there has been one employee death” but he said he could not provide more details immediately.

He said in an email early Monday “it is my understanding that all staff are accounted for.” He said the company was investigating what caused the uprising.

Adams County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Emily Ham said no inmates had escaped the facility.

After the uprising began, CCA’s Special Response Team and the Mississippi Highway Patrol’s SWAT team sought to quell activities within the prison while state and local law-enforcement officers secured the perimeter of the complex, Mayfield said in a statement.

Mayfield added that prison personnel had “gained total control” of the complex.

“Right now, we have three inmate injuries that were probably sustained from other inmates — one being a stab wound, concussion and rib injuries,” Mayfield added. “There were no escapes.”

According to its website, Nashville, Tenn.-based CCA houses about 75,000 offenders and detainees in more than 60 facilities around the country.

Sunday’s riot is not the first time CCA prisons have seen violence. The high level of violence at a CCA-run prison in Idaho has prompted federal lawsuits, public scrutiny and increased state oversight. In 2010, Vermont inmates being held at a CCA prison in Tennessee were subdued with chemical grenades after refusing to return to their cells.

A police statement says the incident happened in Garland Sunday morning. Two Garland officers were across the street when they saw a flash inside the station, drove to the station and saw a woman emerge on fire. After the fire was extinguished, the woman told officers she’d been robbed, doused with a liquid and set afire.

Then, police received reports of a man breaking into houses near the station. Police believe the man officers found is their robbery suspect. He’s in Garland city jail Sunday awaiting charges.

Police say the woman is in critical condition at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas with burns to 40 percent of her body.

A Parker County prosecutor says the assaults resulted in a child, a miscarriage and two abortions.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram did not publish the name of the man in order to protect the victim and her child (http://bit.ly/JFFgbU).

The 48-year-old pleaded guilty May 10 to aggravated sexual assault of a child. He must serve half his sentence before being eligible for parole.

The man’s attorney, Mac Smith, declined to comment.

Shannon Fish grew up in a golf family. Her grandfather, a scratch golfer, and her mother, a veteran of mini tours, introduced her to the game when she was a toddler. She jokes that she has pictures as a baby toting around plastic golf clubs and taking them to the course every weekend when her parents would go play.

She also had influence from two legends in Texas – Hall-of-Famer Jackie Burke and the late swing instructor Dick Harmon.

“Mr. Burke was an acquaintance of my grandfather’s and has been a longtime friend of the family,” said Fish. “When I was growing up, I took lessons from Mr. Harmon from the time he was at River Oaks Country Club until he was at Redstone Golf Club with Charlie Epps.”

Golf came naturally to Fish. She competed all through high school, earning scholarship offers to the several top Division I schools, including the University of Texas and Stanford. Determined to stay close to home, she accepted a full scholarship to UT, where she excelled all four years of college.

Unlike the majority of her competitors on Big Break Atlantis, however, she had no intentions of turning professional. She wanted to study law.

“I earned my degree in government in 2010, and was preparing to continue my education in Law. I wanted to be a lawyer. Even now, I still want to be an attorney. That dream is still alive.”

For six months after graduation, she was studying for the LSAT to apply to law school. Professional golf was not on Fish’s radar. During this time, she also was doing a lot of soul searching to determine if Law is what she wanted to do and what path she needed to follow. It was then that a close family friend, gave her a book to read – “It’s Your Time” – written by famous pastor Joel Osteen.

“I was reading this book and had an epiphany,” said Fish. “Something just hit me said, ‘Shannon, professional golf is what you need to do.’ When this feeling came over me, it was just so profound that strong. I knew that was the direction I needed to go at this point in my life.”

She recalled that the epiphany came over her while reading chapters pertaining raising your expectations and realizing that your best days are in front of you.

“In challenging times, it might be hard to see better days ahead,” said Fish. “But in reading those chapters, it all just came together for me. This was exactly the moment I decided to put my faith in God into action in my life, and give control of my life to Him so that I could find fulfillment in His plans for me.”

She immediately phoned her mother and father and discussed her revelation with them. Her parents gave her their unconditional support. For Shannon, the support her family gave her legitimized her decision that would change the course of her life for the next several years.

She came to this decision in early 2011. In June of that year, she turned professional.

She competed on the Cactus Tour in 2011, looking to justify her decision to see if she was good enough to play on the professional circuit. Her success was instantaneous.

Fish recorded four top-4 finishes on the Cactus Tour in her first six events, her confidence building each and every week.

It was at a Cactus Tour event in 2011 that the opportunity to audition for Big Break presented itself. The series was conducting open auditions, when one of the show’s producers approached her about auditioning for Big Break.

“I thought, sure, why not. I have nothing to lose, so I gave it my best shot.

“And suddenly, here I am.”

After she was cast on the series, word got back to Burke that she was a contestant.

“He smiled and said that I have what it takes to go out there and win,” recalled Fish. “He offers me so much advice about my golf game, and especially my putting, since he is one of the best putters of all-time. He definitely looks out for me. I always will take his advice to heart and treasure.”

With a Hall-of-Famer in her corner, Shannon Fish just might be the one to beat on Big Break Atlantis.

Within seconds, the silver dollar settled heads up, giving the City Council seat to MacNair, a 56-year-old church administrator. He had hoped to win his first election, but he said, “It never struck me that it would happen like this.”

The two men agreed to settle the race for Wolfforth’s City Council with a coin toss after each received 118 votes in last weekend’s election. A run-off election would have cost the tiny town $10,000, a sum the men were eager to save.

Wolfforth city manager Darrell Newsom said the candidates’ decision reflected their characters.

“The term gentlemen comes to mind,” Newsom said. “It’s the gentlemanly thing to do, and they’re acting in a gentlemanly fashion.”

Texas election law provides three options in the event of a tie: a runoff election, one candidate conceding or some form of casting lots.

Coin tosses have decided races in other states, but it wasn’t clear whether it had happened in Texas. Officials with the Texas Municipal League did not immediately return a phone message Friday. It was certainly the first time a coin toss had been used in an election in Lubbock County, officials there said.

MacNair and Studer, a vice president at the Wolfforth branch of a regional bank, shook hands after the toss.

“He’ll do a good job for the city,” said Studer, 37.

MacNair said he was glad the election was over.

Wolfforth is a bedroom community near Lubbock with about 3,700 residents.

The city attorney drew up a three-page contract outlining rules of the coin toss based on state election procedures for municipalities. Newsom said the municipal league had requested a copy of the contract in case another municipality ever faced a similar situation.

Easy: It’s Dwyane Wade. And yes, he has supplanted Lebron James as the most detestable player in the Association.

For the past two years, its been too easy to rail on Lebron. The Decision. The pre-”Dynasty” celebration. Pulling a Houdini in just about every big moment that has crossed his path.

I’m not going to lie…I’ve kind of enjoyed it. But it’s gotten stale. Especially after Lebron missed those two free throws against the Pacers on Tuesday. “The King” was crucified, while D-Wade – who missed an easy layup in the waning moments – was left untouched.

No more. It’s time to start a new fad.

D-Wade is one of the best players in the NBA. When he’s on his game, its something fantastic to watch. So I’m willing to forget his idiotic sense of style (bandaids…really bro?) and the fact that he played like utter garbage against the Pacers yesterday.

But his childish on court-antics are driving me nuts. Dude. You’re a veteran. GROW UP.

If you were playing against Wade in a pick-up basketball game, odds are you’d loathe him. He’s the kind of guy that calls a foul every time he misses:

And don’t even try to show the man up. Because if you do manage to embarrass him, you better watch your back on the other side of the court:

If that wasn’t a flagrant foul made out of frustration, I don’t know what is.

Getting back to our pickup game setting – Wade is the kind of player who’ll ruin the game when things aren’t going his way. How? By either lashing out irrationally at the first person in sight:

You might disagree with me. And that’s fine. But let me offer you this challenge. Watch the Heat and Pacers on Sunday. And then count the number of times that Wade makes you think: “Wow, what a tool.”

Odds are it’ll be just like the Heat’s infamous preseason celebration. Not one, not two, not three, not four. Nope. Much, much more.

In fact, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive all but said it’s coming in Friday’s announcement of the agreement between two of the most successful BCS conferences.

“A new January bowl tradition is born,” Slive said in a statement. “This new game will provide a great matchup between the two most successful conferences in the BCS era and will complement the exciting postseason atmosphere created by the new four-team model. Most importantly, it will provide our student-athletes, coaches and fans with an outstanding bowl experience.”

If one or both of the league champions are selected to play in the playoff, another team would be selected for the Big 12-SEC bowl showdown on Jan. 1.

The move will establish the equivalent of the Pac 12 vs. Big Ten Rose Bowl, minus nearly a century of tradition. Those two conferences have pushed for a new format preserving that matchup for the Rose Bowl, which Slive has indicated he doesn’t favor.

“Our goal is to provide the fans across the country with a New Year’s Day prime-time tradition,” acting Big 12 Conference Commissioner Chuck Neinas said. “This is a landmark agreement between two of the most successful football conferences during the BCS era to stage a postseason event. The creation of this game featuring the champions of the Big 12 and SEC will have tremendous resonance in college football.”

Specific details for the matchup, including host sites, will be announced later.

BCS executive director Bill Hancock has said 11 conference commissioners and Notre Dame’s athletic director will present a “small number” of options – two to seven configurations – for a four-team playoff to their leagues at conference meetings this summer.

Blake barely missed a potential go-ahead 3-pointer with about 3 seconds left in the Lakers’ 77-75 loss to the Thunder on Wednesday night. The third-seeded Lakers already had blown a seven-point lead in the final 2 minutes of regulation, and they fell into a 0-2 hole in the series.

“I let our security people know about it, and kind of kept a record of what was said just in case, but other than that, try not to make a big deal out of it,” Blake said.

Blake said he and his wife, Kristen, were besieged on Twitter by curses, threats, and “people saying things I don’t even really want to repeat. It’s an unfortunate situation, but it’s the mental side of the game. You’ve got to be better than that.”

Blake rarely tweets, but his wife is a frequent user of social media. The family has three young children.

“I hope your family gets murdered,” read one post that Kristen Blake re-tweeted with the comment, “Wow.”

The team gave no immediate reason for Friday’s decision, which was announced on the Heat’s media telephone hotline.
