Frisco (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas battled through choppy offensive performances and a few spectacular saves from each team’s goalkeepers to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the Texas Derby on Sunday Night.
Tyler Deric made a leaping 2-handed save off a Kellyn Acosta in the 27th minute and pounced on the rebound to keep the game tied for the Dynamo while Jesse Gonzalez answered on the other side just thirty-seconds later with a great diving save against Alberth Elis’ right-footed curling effort.
FC Dallas lost defender Walker Zimmerman with a knee injury after colliding with Elis but the Dynamo could not take advantage of the different backline for FC Dallas only mustering five shots, with two on target in the game. The second on target shot came from the foot of Mauro Manotas off a cross from Alex that saw the young striker slide and put a ball on target, but a sliding knee from Gonzalez kept the game drawn in the 65th minute.
FC Dallas did see a higher volume of shots, putting 16 towards Deric and the Dynamo goal, but only 4 were on target and only the free kick from Acosta really challenged the Dynamo keeper.
The point was the Dynamo’s first road point on the season after falling in their first five attempts. The point for each team also keeps both equal and in second place in the Western Conference with 20 points each, behind Sporting KC at 22 points.
