The Houston Texans traded up in round 1 of the NFL Draft to get Deshaun Watson to fill their hole at quarterback. Now they look to day two of the NFL Draft and the 57th pick in the 2nd round.
What five players still available can the Texans think about targeting in the 2nd round?
1. Forrest Lamp – OL – Western Kentucky
The Big offensive lineman might be more of a guard in the NFL but can play tackle. If he continues to slide and gets to 57, this is ideal for the Texans.
2. Cam Robinson – OL – Alabama
The big bruising Tackle from Alabama fell out of the first round because many people see some flaws in his game, but he’s big and powerful and can probably learn well from Duane Brown.
3. Obi Melifonwu – S – UConn
The big safety would be a good addition to the Texans defensive backfield that is seeing some holes at Safety. At 6’4″ and 224 lbs he also can cover and step in to play some corner if needed. Also his name is pronounced OH-bee mel-un-FON-woo.
4. Marcus Maye – S – Florida
Another safety, Maye doesn’t have the size of Melifonwu but he is a ball hawk who reads the QB well and can fill that Texans hole at safety as well. Maye broke his arm late in the 2016 season and missed the last four games. It shouldn’t be a problem heading into 2017.
5. Josh Jones – S – N.C. State
Finally, the speedy Josh Jones is a solid tackler (lead Wolfpack with 109 in 2016) who can get all over the field. He ran a 4.41 40-yard dash at the combine. He can get a little too aggressive sometimes and needs to be reigned in.
We’ll see who the Texans take in round 2 tonight starting at 6 pm. Here is the full day two draft order.
