HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) – The first round has still yet to be completed in the NBA’s Western Conference playoffs with only Golden State advancing to the conference semi finals with their win Monday over Portland.
With the Houston Rockets up 3-1 in their series over the Thunder, the Rockets are inching closer to their second appearance in the second round in the James Harden era. While they still need to take care of the Thunder, it is easy for fans to look ahead at a potential match-up with their in-state rival San Antonio.
The Spurs won three of the four regular season match-ups with Houston, but according to CBS Sports NBA writer Matt Moore the Rockets may be better off facing the Spurs in the second round instead of the Grizzlies.
“I am of the belief that they should be a heavy favorite versus San Antonio,” Moore told the Triple Threat on Monday. “I think that they are categorically a better team with a better formula, they have a better design. They have a match-up advantage over San Antonio despite how the regular season match-ups played out 3-1. I love Houston’s chances in second round series versus the Spurs.”
The Spurs are having their own issues in the first round. They have lost two straight games after dominating the first two games against the Memphis Grizzlies.
