Houston (CBS Houston) – The Houston Dynamo host the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday with the Dynamo looking to say unbeaten at home, and both teams looking to end winless draughts.
After starting the season with wins in three of the first four matches the Dynamo are winless in their last two. San Jose, like Houston, won their first two matches but hasn’t won in five matches since.
Last week the Dynamo jumped ahead of Minnesota United FC, 2-0 at the half appearing that they would cruise to victory. Instead, the Dynamo surrendered two second half goals as the Loons would come back to get a point out of the match. The week prior the Dynamo lost, 2-0 at New England.
The draw against Minnesota was the first time in four matches at home that the Dynamo didn’t win.
While still early in the season, the match has implications on the Western Conference playoff race. The Dynamo are currently in fourth place with 10 points, while San Jose has nine points and is in fifth place.
Erick Torres leads the Dynamo with six goals on the season, which is also tops in the MLS. Meanwhile, Alex has four assists, which is tied for the MLS lead with three other players.
San Jose will be playing their third match in nine days after playing to a scoreless draw at New England on Wednesday, their first road point of the season, and a 1-1 draw at home against FC Dallas.
Draws have been a trend for San Jose as they have finished level in each of their last three matches, and haven’t won a match in their last five.
Last season San Jose scored a league low 32 goals and this season have only eight through seven matches.
Former Dynamo Chris Wondolowski and Anibal Godoy each have scored twice this season to lead San Jose in that category.
