HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) – The SWAC Champion Texas Southern University are headed to Greenville, South Carolina as a 16-seed in the NCAA Men’s basketball tournament to face top seeded North Carolina.

While the Tigers are the lone Houston area team to reach the NCAAs, three other area programs have punched their tickets in the additional postseason tournaments.

Wednesday night the University of Houston Cougars, who finished the season at 21-10, will play in the NIT as a 2-seed and will host Akron in the opening round of the tournament. While the Cougars are the host school, the game will be played at Texas Southern’s H&PE Arena as renovations at Hofheinz Pavilion have begun. Ti-off for the NIT opener is scheduled for 6:30 pm.

The Rice Owls will also host a postseason tournament game on Wednesday when they begin play in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) tournament against the University of San Francisco. The Owls finished the season with a 22-11 record, the eighth 20-win season in school history and first under third-year head coach Mike Rhoades. The opening round match-up will tip-off at 7pm.

Houston Baptist will participate in the Tournament (CIT) beginning on Tuesday when they travel to face the Campbell University Camels. It’s the second consecutive postseason appearance for the Huskies.
