Texans owner Robert McNair has pledged $5 million dollars towards the construction of the South Carolina Gamecocks planned $50 million football operations facility, according to College AD and The Post and Courier. McNair is a graduate of the University of South Carolina.
The building will house locker and weight rooms, coaches offices and a player’s lounge. The school hopes to break ground on the facility this year. The project earned final approval late last year when the state’s Fiscal Accountability Authority signed off with its approval but only after the school promised to cut athletic fees for in state students.
“Janice and I have been privileged to support great initiatives in higher education and athletics,” Bob McNair said in a university press release. “We are again honored to join with other Gamecock supporters in supporting the new football operations center at the University of South Carolina. We hope all fellow Gamecocks will join us in taking part in this extraordinary project.”
“We are very appreciative of Janice and Bob McNair for their substantial gift towards the new football operations center,” South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner said in a statement. “Their many contributions to the University of South Carolina make our institution one of the best in the nation.”
