Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Texans are moving around their coaching staff on Wednesday. It was reported by the Houston Chronicle that the team would promote linebackers coach Mike Vrabel to defensive coordinator and move current defensive coordinator, Romeo Crennel, to assistant head coach.

Vrabel, a former Super Bowl winning linebacker with the New England Patriots will enter his fourth year coaching in the NFL with his first as a coordinator. Vrabel was reported to be interviewing for the Los Angeles Rams head coaching job this offseason.

Crennel is a longtime coach in the league, coaching some of Vrabel’s defenses as a player as well as being a head coach of the Browns and Chiefs before coming to Houston when Bill O’Brien took over as the Texans head coach. Crennel helped the Texans defense to the number one team in yards allowed on defense in 2016. His contract was up after the 2016 season.
