Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – Jason Terry spent the last two seasons with the Houston Rockets, but this year, Wednesday he came to the Toyota Center as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks.
In Terry’s last season with the team, the Rockets did not live up to expectations and ended up getting swept by the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs.
This year with the addition of coach Mike D’Antoni, along with signing shooters Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon, the Rockets have become one of the best teams in the West.
Terry, Wednesday shared with sportsradio610.com that he knew the D’Antoni and Harden marriage was going to work out.
“For James Harden, this is the best system for him and his game,” Terry said. “The guys around him understand that and they’ve bought into it.”
One of the other massive changes from Terry’s Rockets to this year’s team is the fact that now Harden is no longer a shooting guard, he’s the point guard.
“He played a lot of point guard in College and with the ball being in his hands 90 percent of the time it only made sense,” Terry said. “If you’re any kind of basketball guy you know, and the analytics will tell you that he’s responsible for 90 percent of their offense whether it’s assisted on or scored by himself, when you have a player of that caliber you have to have him at the point guard position, to have him off the ball is not going to do him any justice.”
While Harden has always ended up with the ball in his hand. This year he’s now just getting the ball at the beginning of the play and the results have been amazing as he leads the NBA in assists with 11.7 a game.
