Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – The Rockets beat the Magic in Orlando 100-93 for their 7th win in a row. They also improve to (29-9) on the season which is 3rd in the Western Conference. It was not a good night offensively for anyone, but James Harden nearly had another triple double finishing with 14 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds.
“You know I just don’t think we were mentally 100% ready to go, and that happens sometimes. The NBA season is long… We came out flat,” Houston Head Coach Mike D’Antoni said.
Ryan Anderson actually led Houston in scoring with 19 points. Patrick Beverley and Eric Gordon followed with 17 points each. Overall, it was not a good night of shooting for the Rockets. They were 30% from 3-point range and 45% from the field.
“Well, you know, we have big aspirations and that means, in the west especially, we’d like to get in a real top seed and you can’t have bad nights. San Antonio doesn’t have bad nights. Golden State doesn’t have bad nights. So, if we want to be in that class we can’t have bad nights,” D’Antoni said.
The Magic actually had the lead at the half, 52-44. The Rockets then outscored Orlando by 12 points in the 3rd quarter and held on for the win. Patrick Beverley played over 31 minutes to help win the game in what was his first game back since a wrist injury.
“It hurt real bad… I got to fight through it, you know, we’re trying to make something special happen this year and you don’t get a lot of opportunities like this,” Beverley said.
Next the Rockets go north of the border to take on the Raptors. Houston is looking for win number 30 on the season. Toronto is 2nd in the Eastern Conference with a record of (24-11).
