Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – With the Houston Texans ruling Tom Savage out for Saturday’s wildcard game with the Oakland Raiders, Brandon Weeden will now be the backup to Brock Osweiler.
This Saturday will only be the third time this season Weeden has been active. Weeden now will go from sweats and a T-shirt while milling around on the sideline to a helmet and jersey while also being more involved in helping Osweiler if he sees anything from the sideline.
Now at any given moment Weeden can be one play from getting into the game. If the Texans do need Weeden, he did happen to go 2-0 last year, including helping them get the team’s first-ever win over the Indianapolis Colts while on the road.
“I’d like to say maybe I’ve gained some confidence from a few of these guys that were out there with me,” Brandon Weeden said. “They know my personality in the huddle, I’m going to just get back there and rip it and they know that.”
While he hasn’t played in any games this year, Weeden feels he’ll be just fine if he indeed does get the call.
“Mentally I think I’m gonna be alright,” Weeden said. “Physically it’s just going out there and knock a little bit of rust off in the early on, get a couple of completions, get in a rhythm and that’s a huge key about playing in this position.”
