Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – Texans Safety Quintin Demps was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month after getting an interception in four straight games. No Texan has recorded an interception in four consecutive games. He is also just the second safety in team history to earn the monthly honor.
“Its been a long road coming for me, you know what I’m saying, it’s the road less traveled being a journeyman. [I’ve] Been on one year deals the last five years so to get an award like that, it definitely means a lot to me,” Demps said.
Quintin has been shuffled around the league having stints with the Eagles, Chiefs and Giants. He is with the Texans now for the second time in his nine-year career, and it has been his best yet. Demps has six interceptions this year, a career high, which also led all safeties in the NFL at one point in the season.
“I’m just on a mission. I’ve just been on a mission since last offseason to get some respect in this league for sure and win some ballgames,” Quintin said.
His breakout season comes at the perfect time for the Texans defense which is ranked first in the league. The experience Demps brings to the table at this time of year is important. In his career, Quintin has been in nine postseason games with three of those being starts.
“You know, full of energy, it’s exciting. It’s a new season for us, a fresh start… We’re looking forward to the challenge and we’ve got to rise to the challenge for sure,” Demps said.
