Jadeveon Clowney’s Pro-bowl Nod A Sign Of How Far He’s Come

Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – It’s been a long road, but Houston Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has made the 2017 pro-bowl.

It’s been three years since the team spent the number one overall pick on Clowney and up until this year, his seasons have been filled with injuries and setbacks.

People may have lost faith in Clowney during those injured filled seasons but he knew all he had to do was be healthy.

“After the rough two seasons I had, I was like I’m gonna come back and make this pro-bowl this year and do whatever I got to do to make it,” Jadeveon Clowney said. “I worked hard in the offseason, came in and had a great season and stayed healthy.”

This year Clowney has played in all but one game, and on the year he has a career-high five sacks to go along with his 15 tackles for losses (2nd most in the NFL).

After it was announced that Clowney had made the pro-bowl his teammates flooded the internet with congratulatory messages. Clowney may not have lived up to expectations early with injuries hampering his start, but his teammates saw how hard he worked and how much he’s put into becoming the player he is today.

“I know everything he’s been through in his short career, physically, mentally and everything it took to just get to this point,” Duane Brown said. “The surgery he had a couple of years ago for a lot of guys that’s career threatening and they’re never the same after that, and for him to come back not only on be on the field but be disruptive and be a game wrecker the way he’s been this year, even battling through more injuries, I take my hat off to him.”

With a 2017 pro-bowl invite under his belt, Clowney is still chasing being worthy of the Texans taking him so high in the draft.

“I’m only getting better, I’m getting healthier as the years going,” Clowney said. “Everybody is saying ‘you’re wearing down’ but I feel like I’m feeling a lot better the longer I’ve been in it.”

Getting the invite was a big deal and an honor, but Clowney knows he’d much rather have a lengthy playoff run.

“I hope I don’t get to play in the pro-bowl, that’s what I’m hoping for,” Clowney said. “We’re trying to do much bigger things than that right now.”
