Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Rockets were up 13 points with just a little over four minutes left in the game, but they were not able to hang on as the San Antonio Spurs bested them 102-100.
All night long the Rockets struggled from the three point line. To start the game they missed their first 14 and only finished 6-38 from deep, far off from their average of 14.9 made three’s a game.
Down the stretch, the Spurs came alive knocking down 5/6 three’s. Spurs guard Patty Mills’s three off a broken play with 12 seconds left would be what ended the Rockets 10 game win streak.
“We missed 30 something three’s and we should have won the game,” James Harden said. “Give the (Spurs) credit they made shots and they’re an extremely good team, as much as we wanted to continue the streak, we’re still playing well.”
The Rockets had a couple of leads on the Spurs late in the fourth, but they kept going away from the movement and the aggressive offensive play that helped them score 33 points in the third quarter.
“We turned the ball over, I didn’t close the right way, we didn’t close the right way as a team,” Harden said.
While the Rockets went blow for blow against the Spurs and ended up on the losing end the team proved it still is among the top in the West.
“We’re a hell of a team,” Eric Gordon said. “We are a very good team, we definitely as good as any of them, we’re going to be there right at the top.”
