Bill O’Brien: Replacing Osweiler “Best Decision For The Team”

Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Texans went down early to the Jacksonville Jaguars in part because of two interceptions by starting quarterback Brock Osweiler.  Bill O’Brien, the Texans head coach decided to pull Osweiler, who the Texans signed to a 4-year $72 million contract this offseason with the Texans and replace him with 3rd-year backup Tom Savage.

“We don’t make decisions [based] on how much a guy gets paid,” O’Brien said after the game.  “I try to make decisions in the best interest of the team.

“I felt at that time (bringing in Savage) was the best thing for the 46-guys on the sideline.”

The Texans were able to come back and win the game, in part thanks to a 260-yard day by Savage.  Despite Savage’s play O’Brien would not lock him in as the starter for Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals on Christmas Eve.  O’Brien reiterated he will make the decision based on what he believes is best for the team.
