Which of these sport headlines is fabricated from this week?
Johnny Manziel hung out with the new Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson Saturday night in New York?
Carlos Gomez was re-signed by the Texas Rangers?
The NFL’s Pro Bowl week will feature a Dodgeball game?
Or Houston Athletic Director Hunter Yurachek offered the Texas Longhorns a chance to get out of a $2.5 million dollar buyout owed because of Tom Herman leaving for Austin?
Uh, none. They are all true. But give Yurachek credit for a creative way to save some dollars. And who isn’t looking to save a few bucks around the holidays? Especially if you have just spent $30 million on a new football coach.
All Yurachek and the Cougars wanted in return was for a home and home series in football as well as one in basketball. That sounds reasonable. According to the Chronicle, Texas A.D. Mike Perrin declined the offer and it is no longer on the table. That’s too bad. Rice and Texas meet in both sports. Maybe it is time to find a way to get the Cougars and Horns back on the field or court, somewhere, sometime. Maybe Yurachek’s creativity will lead to another opportunity in the future.
