Houston (CBS Houston) – The Rockets beat the Portland Trail Blazers 126-109 as Guard Patrick Beverley made his return to the floor. After scoring the first basket of the game for Houston, Beverley was quiet the rest of the half. He would finish with 11 points and tie a career high with three blocks.
“I felt strong, I felt fast. Like I said my wind is going to come, you can’t really simulate game shape… I felt really good, I felt confident too,” Patrick said. “I was just trying to get back to Pat.”
The game was tied at 62 at the half, but a strong defensive effort by the Rockets in the 3rd quarter held the Trail Blazers to just 21 points. Coach Mike D’Antoni also acknowledged that Beverley was the spark the Rockets needed on the defensive side of the ball.
“I think our defensive can get a lot better with him out there just because of his toughness. He’s smart… He plays with an edge and you got to have that.”
Patrick Beverley’s return was equally as notable as James Harden’s triple double. James finished with 26 points, 14 assists and 12 rebounds. All five Houston starters had double figures in points and also Guard Eric Gordon off the bench.
The Rockets improve to (7-5) and next host the Utah Jazz Saturday night at the Toyota Center.
