The Cleveland Indians are in the World Series for the first time since 1997. With the American League win in this year’s All-Star Game, the Indians will host game 1 of the series against either the Chicago Cubs or the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cubs currently lead the series 3-2.
As soon as the Indians clinched a trip to the World Series fans on the Internet started calling for the Indians to make a call to the bullpen and have Ricky “Wild Thing” Vaughn actor Charlie Sheen throw out the first pitch of the 2016 Fall Classic.
Vaughn, the flame-throwing rookie reliever from the California Penal League to the Major Leagues, helped the Indians to a remarkable run to a division championship in 1989’s “Major League.” Never has the city of Milwaukee cheered so hard for the Cleveland Indians (The movie was filmed largely at Milwaukee’s County Stadium, home of the Brewers at the time). But with the actual city of Cleveland experiencing their second championship series in 5 months Rick Vaughn coming out of the bullpen (and he would have to come out of the bullpen, right!?) to toss out the first pitch would get Jacob’s Field rocking.
Rick Vaughn himself has said he’s ready if called upon.
Charlie Sheen is ready. The Indians are in there. This needs to happen. If Major League Baseball wants to resonate with the public and get people tuned in, this would be a great start. It’s also great karma for a team that hasn’t won the World Series since 1948.
Here’s hoping for a little Wild Thing on Tuesday night. You can sign a petition for it to happen as well.
