Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – Help for the Houston Texans secondary might not be too far away. 2014’s Mr. Irrelevant, safety Lonnie Ballentine on Wednesday practiced for the first time in a year.
He still remains on the physically unable to perform list but practicing means a return is on the horizon.
Before practice Wednesday while stretching, Ballentine was excited to be there and he was full of smiles.
“It felt good, I felt great,” Ballentine said of practicing. “Got to get out there move around, running around with my teammates after a full year, I was excited, it’s been a minute.”
For two straight season’s Ballentine has found his way onto injured reserved, but the Texans like him and have continued to keep him around.
Now with the loss of cornerback Kevin Johnson and the secondary a little banged up, the news of Ballentine finally healthy couldn’t come at a better time.
Ballentine did mention Wednesday that he will be back this season, but it is unlikely for him to be ready to go this Monday.
“It’s been a grind, I’m a professional so it’s our job to get back healthy, get back to be able to play,” Ballentine said. “Now I’m here to help the team any way I can.”
