Houston (CBS Houston) – Alan Gordon’s goal lifts the LA Galaxy past the Dynamo, 1-0 in the Dynamo home finale.

Landon Donovan made his first start for the Galaxy (12-6-15, 51 points) since coming out of retirement earlier this year.

For the Dynamo (7-14-12, 33 points) Yair Arboleda made his first start in his MLS career, while Keyner Brown started his second match in a row.

Both teams started off the first half sloppy and had trouble maintaining possession for the first 20 minutes.

Donovan provided the first legitimate scoring chance in the 24th minute when he would cut inside of Keyner Brown in defense, but had his left footed shot blocked by David Horst.

Giovani dos Santos gave the Galaxy another good look in the 44th minute when he tried a chip that was deflected over the crossbar.

After four minutes of stoppage time, the teams would head to the locker room in a scoreless draw.

Cristian Maidana had a good look at goal in the early stages of the second half. In the 52nd minute his shot from outside the top of the box missed just left of the far post.

Gordon’s goal came in the 72nd minute after Joe Willis saved a Mike Magee shot. The shot rebounded off Willis to David Horst, Horst tried to clear the ball and Gordon deflected it for a goal.

The Dynamo would have a few chances late, specifically a Bruin header off a corner kick, but couldn’t find an equalizing goal.

With the win, the LA Galaxy won all three matches against the Dynamo this season, two of them at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Galaxy outscored the Dynamo 6-1 in those three matches.

With the loss, the Dynamo finish the season with a home record of 5-5-7.

The Dynamo conclude the 2016 season next week against Colorado.
