Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – Rookie running back Tyler Ervin this year has not had the easiest of times returning kicks or punts. Before the game against the Minnesota Vikings, the fourth round draft pick was one of the worst in the league in terms of yards per return.

The Vikings boast one of the best defensives in the NFL and their special team’s coverage is also one of the best in the league, only allowing 7.9 yards a punt return.

While Ervin had struggled, one of his strongest games was against the Vikings. On the game, he returned two kicks for a 26.5-yard average and had a 16.5-yard average on two punt returns.

“I think I did ok with it,” Ervin said of his return’s this past Sunday. “There’s a lot of room for improvement, that’s what I worked on this week, tried to fix some things I didn’t do so well last week.”

Ervin still hasn’t had a breakout game yet, but putting up yards on the Vikings could be a good sign of things to come.
