Houston (CBS Houston) – Joe Willis and Stefan Frei put on a show as the Dynamo and Sounders play to a scoreless draw in Seattle.
With a draw on the road, the Dynamo (7-13-12, 33 points) have now went four matches in a row away from home without a loss for the first time since 2013.
Interim Head Coach Wade Barrett switched up his lineup a bit with the Dynamo playing their first of two matches this week. Will Bruin and David Horst made their first starts in a while, and Jose Escalante and Keyner Brown made their first career MLS starts.
Andreas Ivanschitz gave Seattle (13-13-6, 45 points) their first look in the 10th minute when he fired a shot that was the first of many saves for Willis. Ivanschitz was injured on the play and would have to leave the game.
Bruin gave the Dynamo their first good look in the 30th minute when his shot just outside the top of the box went off the post after Frei tipped it with the tips of his fingers.
Andrew Wenger showed his skill in the 39th minute as he tried a left footed curler to the far post that Frei again made a diving save on.
Willis, just one minute later, denied Erik Friberg with a double save.
Things got tense in the 64th minute. Osvaldo Alonso and Bruin got tangled up and Alonso shoved Bruin in the face three times. Alonso was shown the red card, and Bruin saw a yellow.
The Dynamo couldn’t take advantage of playing with one more man than Seattle and finished where they started, a nil-nil draw.
Willis, who saved seven Sounder shots, picked up his fifth clean sheet of the season. Frei, for Seattle, saved five shots on his way to his eighth shutout of the season.
Bruin led the Dynamo with five shots, three of them on goal.
With the draw, the Dynamo and Seattle finished level in all three matches this season. The two previous games between the two teams finished in 1-1 draws.
The Dynamo wrap up the home portion of their schedule on Sunday when they host the LA Galaxy.
