Two weeks ago, Mauro Manotas netted a hat trick when they Dynamo beat Portland. Saturday night, he scored twice, but it wasn’t enough as the Dynamo lost to the Colorado Rapids 3-2 at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Manotas’ first goal came in the 45th minute on assists from Sheanon Williams and Ricardo Clark and even the match. Dominique Badji scored in the 12th minute off a Dynamo turnover to give Colorado the lead, but Colorado regained the lead early in the second half.
Badji scored in 54th minute and 25 minutes later, Shkelzen Gashi put the ball in the back of the net for the eighth time this season to make it 3-1. Manotas snuck a 20-foot free kick past everyone, including Rapids’ goal keeper Tim Howard, in the 81st minute, making it a 1-goal match, but the Dynamo had just two shots the rest of the way, and neither resulted in goals.
Manotas now has six goals this season, most on the Dynamo, who fail to secure a point for the second straight match as they drop to 7-13-11.
Colorado improves 14-5-12, good for 54 points. They remain second in the Western Conference table, a year after finishing 10th. Badji’s two goals give him six for the season.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Dynamo, who will play in Seattle Wednesday night at 9:30. They’ll play their final home match of the season October 16 when the LA Galaxy visit BBVA Compass Stadium.
