Tim Howard is expected to lead MLS’ stingiest defense into BBVA Compass Stadium Saturday night when his Colorado Rapids play at the Dynamo.
Howard, back in MLS after spending 14 seasons in the English Premier League has come up with 6 clean sheets in 13 starts as the Dynamo enter Saturday’s match with the league’s best defense, having surrendered just 27 goals all season.
Colorado clinched a playoff berth with its win last week over Portland after finishing last in the Western Conference a season ago. It is second in the Western Conference with a 13-5-12 record. The Rapids have scored just 33 goals all season led by Shkelzen Gashi’s seven.
The Dynamo saw a 3-match point streak end last Friday with a 2-0 loss to NYCFC at BBVA Compass Stadium thanks to two second half goals from David Villa. It marked the first time since August 6 the Dynamo failed to score a goal, a span that covered seven matches.
The loss dropped Houston to 7-12-11 on the season, last place in the West
Kickoff from BBVA Compass Stadium is set for 7:00. It will be the first time the Dynamo and Rapids have met all season. They’ll play again October 23 in Denver.
