HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) –  Texans defensive end JJ Watt was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday after he reinjured his back in Thursday’s 27-0 loss to New England. However ,his 2016 future with the club was still in question as he could have still returned to the field after eight games.

In Bill O’Brien’s Friday press conference he confirmed that former three-time defensive player of the year would miss the rest of the 2016 season after it was reported Thursday night that he underwent surgery to repair his back.

Thursday’s surgery closed the door on a 2016 return for Watt
