Houston (CBS Houston) – Friday night the Dynamo are looking for a first in the 2016 season, three straight wins in MLS competition play. To do that though, the Dynamo will have to defeat one of the to best teams in the Eastern Conference, New York City FC.
In addition to the opportunity of three wins in a row, the Dynamo also have the chance to go undefeated in four straight for the first time this season.
With a win last week against the defending MLS Cup champions, Portland, and a win on the road against Real Salt Lake two weeks ago, the Dynamo have won back-to-back matches for the first time this season. Also, the club now has a three match undefeated streak for the third time, all under interim head coach Wade Barrett.
Mauro Manotas scored a hat trick in last week’s win over Portland, and has now scored four goals on the season. Manotas trails Andrew Wenger and Alex for the club lead, who each have five.
The Dynamo, despite good form lately, are still last in the table in the Western Conference, but have been tough to beat at home losing only twice in 14 matches this season.
New York City FC, in just their second season, is on the opposite end of the table, in the opposite conference. They have clinched a playoff spot and are just one point behind Toronto FC for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
New York City FC is coming off a 4-1 victory against Chicago last week, and enter Friday’s match 2-1-1 in the month of September.
David Villa paces New York City FC with 19 goals on the season. Villa is second in the MLS Golden Boot standings, behind only Bradley Wright-Phillips of the NY Red Bulls.
The Dynamo and New York City FC have played just once in series history, and played to a 1-1 draw last season.
