HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) – Texans left tackle Duane Brown was in a jovial mood after his first practice back with the team on Monday.
Brown, who has been sidelined since Week 17 of last season recovering from a torn quad, was excited to finally step on the field with full pads on with the rest of his team.
“Being sidelined for so long, you take little things like putting on your helmet, take things like that for granted,” Brown said. “Today was a great milestone for me being able to get out there, practice with my guys and get back into the groove of things. It felt amazing.”
Brown admitted that he and the medical staff selected his practice return date just a few days ago. Brown got a nice response from his teammates stepping back on the field.
“It was great,” Brown said of the reaction he received from his teammates Monday. “Just getting suited up, a lot of guys didn’t know I was going today. Just caught a lot of people by surprise and the reception I got, it’s always heartwarming.”
Guard Jeff Allen said the entire offensive line group was thrilled to see Brown step back on the field.
“Everyone’s really excited,” Allen said of the offensive line’s joy for Brown’s return. “The offensive line, we’re over in a little corner and everyone just started clapping. It was an awesome reception for him and it was good to see him out there.”
The only thing that remains is a return to the game field and that’s something that Bill O’Brien wouldn’t come clean on if it would be this Sunday against the Titans or another game in the future.
“Possibly this week,” O’Brien said. “Never know.”
Sharing the same elusiveness as his coach, Brown didn’t give any additional details.
“It’s a possibility,” Brown said.
