Report: Patriots To Start Rookie QB Brissett

By: Alex Del Barrio, Sportsradio 610

FOXBOROUGH, MA (CBS HOUSTON) –  According to multiple media reports, the New England Patriots will start rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett when they host the Houston Texans for Thursday Night Football at Gillette Stadium.

Second year quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who had been starting in place of the suspended Tom Brady, suffered a sprain to his AC joint in his shoulder in Sunday’s win over Miami. Garoppolo was listed as doubtful entering Thursday. There is no official word on whether Garoppolo will be active for the game.

The Patriots were short on time in signing a free agent, although they did workout former Texan TJ Yates earlier this week. The Patriots elected to stand pat and will have wideout Julian Edelman, who played quarterback at Kent State, will likely be the de facto back-up quarterback.
