Duane Brown Raises Fist During National Anthem

Bryan Altman

As many NFL players have been doing over the last several weeks since Colin Kaepernick started the trend in August, Texans’ offensive lineman Duane Brown, who is inactive for tonight’s game due to an injury, raised his fist in the air as the national anthem played throughout the stadium to voice his displeasure with the current state of race relations in America.

Brown’s protest comes on the heels of even more civil unrest in the Charlotte area as riots have persisted since the killing of another unarmed black man by police. That is in addition to a shooting in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where an unarmed black man was killed by police and the entire incident was caught on video, which has since been released.

Brown took to Twitter earlier this week and spoke out about that recent shooting.

The officer in question in the Tulsa shooting is being charged with first-degree manslaughter.
