Chael Sonnen is without question one of the most interesting characters in MMA. His career as a fighter has been marked by ups and downs, but he’s not done yet. He enters this next chapter of his career with a record of 29-14-1, and while hasn’t fought in the UFC, or any other MMA organization, since he lost to Rashad Evans via TKO back at UFC 167 in November of 2013, he’s primed for a more.
It was announced this weekend that he has signed with Bellator MMA, which is snapping up big name fighters that the UFC dumped millions into promoting, but have since released because of lack of performance.
Chael, in top form, had an electrifying conference call with the media and promised to beat anyone down, at any time, in any weight class. Listen to a quick snippet from the call here:
One of the “legends” he promised to dispatch was former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz, who didn’t seem to appreciate being called out by Sonnen.
Maybe these guys aren’t the best pound for pound in the world anymore, it is after all a young man’s sport, but I find it wildly entertaining. Bravo, Bellator. If you cage Tito and Chael, I’m in.
