Houston (CBS Houston) – Alex’s first half goal lifts the Dynamo to a 1-0 victory, and hands Real Salt Lake their first home loss of the season.
The Dynamo (6-11-11, 29 points) pick up their second win of the season away from home, and have four points in two straight road games.
It was the first loss of the season for Real Salt Lake (12-10-8, 44 points) in fifteen matches playing in front of the home fans at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Real Salt Lake controlled possession in the first half, but couldn’t break through and weren’t successful putting many shots on target.
Alex would score in the 36th minute to give the Dynamo a 1-0 lead, which would turn out to be enough. The goal was Alex’s fifth of the season, which ties him with Andrew Wenger for the club lead.
Mauro Manotas nearly gave the Dynamo a two goal advantage at the start of the second half when he fired a right footed shot of the post.
Sheanon Williams would pick up a yellow card in the 54th minute for time wasting. It was the first of four yellow cards handed out by referee Silviu Petrescu for time wasting, and seven combined yellows handed to both teams combined.
In the end, the Dynamo would see the game through and pick up three points on the road.
Real Salt Lake had plenty of chances outshooting the Dynamo, 15-7, but only putting one of those 15 shots on frame. Real Salt Lake also dominated the possession in the game 66 percent to the Dynamo’s 34 percent.
Now after back-to-back road matches the Dynamo return to BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday against Portland for the first of three in a row at home.
