Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson joined SportsRadio 610’s In The Loop with former Chiefs star Dante Hall, John Lopez and Cody Stoots on Thursday, ahead of their game against the Houston Texans this Sunday.
Johnson said that the Chiefs superstar running back Jamaal Charles is almost ready to play, but he’s currently helping his team get ready by playing on the scout team.
“He’s almost back to 100 percent,” Johnson said. “His 80 or 90 percent that is enough for us. He’s not on the active (roster) but Jamaal Charles is our running back for the scout team right now.
“It’s crazy, sometimes he makes these cuts and breaks on us and coach doesn’t even fuss at us, cause he knows that’s Jamaal Charles.”
This is the third time that the Chiefs will travel to Houston and play the Texans in the last 12 months. Johnson told In The Loop three straight wins in the NFL against one team is not easy.
“Being in the NFL for 12 years it’s hard to beat a team multiple times, especially in a row,” Johnson said. “To have (the Texans) the first game of the year last year and then have them in the playoffs, it’s hard to beat them again. That’s our challenge that we have.”
This year’s Texans team is different than the won KC beat twice last year.
“They have a really good team, offensively and defensively. They are a better team then they were last year,” Johnson said.
The Texans kick off at noon on Sunday at NRG Stadium against Johnson and the Cheifs.
