CBS Houston – Houston Texans second-year linebacker Benardrick McKinney will be getting a little more to do this Sunday with the injury to Brian Cushing last week.
Per the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson, McKinney will be the guy who will be making the defensive calls on the field. He will wear the helmet that receives calls from Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel.
“Help get the defense set up, get the D-linemen going,” Benardrick McKinney said about what he will be doing this week.
McKinney also mentioned that Max Bullough has been helping him out with the defense. With three years experience in the defense, Bullough understands the system very well.
“He’s a smart player,” McKinney said of Bullough, “We are just going to communicate, get the calls in and get everybody lined up.”
An MCL injury to Cushing on the very first defensive snap of the season will keep him on the self for the at least 4-6 weeks. McKinney who was drafted in the second round in 2015 has become a good linebacker and a heavy hitter now he will add more to his plate till Cushing is ready to return.
