Jose Altuve Leaves Game With Oblique Discomfort

By Joshua Reese

CBS Houston – Houston Astros star second basemen Jose Altuve was not able to make it through Wednesday’s season finale with the Texas Rangers.

In the top of the 5th inning, Altuve did not return to the field and was replaced in the lineup by Tyler White. The Astros later announced Altuve left the game with right oblique discomfort.

After Altuve left the game, Root Sports replayed an at-bat in the third inning when it looked the second basemen winched in pain after a swing. A.J. Hinch after the game mentioned that during that at-bat he noticed something was wrong and he did not like the way Altuve was throwing the ball of defense in the next half-inning.

Hinch did not have an update for Altuve but did say he was “not optimistic” about the all-star playing this Friday.

Altuve before leaving the game was able to collect double in the first inning but was picked off trying to steal third base.

At the time Altuve left the game the Astros were leading the Rangers 3-1 and ultimately were able to win 8-4.

Earlier in the month Altuve was slowed by right calf discomfort but did not miss a game. So far this season the Astros ironman has only missed one game.
