Latest Texans Injury Report

Houston (CBS Houston) – With Week One’s game against Chicago just around the corner, the amount of how much to expect to see J.J. Watt and Derek Newton on Sunday is still a bit of a mystery.

Watt missed training camp and preseason after surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back.  He’s been cleared to play, but how much is uncertain.

When asked, head coach Bill O’Brien said that a play count wouldn’t be decided until the weekend.  “I always try to do what the medical people advise me to do.  We’ll decide that probably sometime before the game,” O’Brien said.

Newton, like Watt, missed the entire preseason but is expected to start Sunday’s game.  Newton strained his hamstring in camp, but seemingly will get his fair share of reps against the Bears.

“He’ll be out there quite a bit,” O’Brien added.

Will Fuller is dealing with a hamstring injury and was a limited participant at practice for the second straight day, but it shouldn’t hurt his availability Sunday.

“He’ll be fine, he’ll be fine,” O’Brien said.

Duane Brown will not play Sunday as he continues to recover from last season’s quadriceps injury.
