The University of Houston is taking their win over the Oklahoma Sooners and climbing in the national football polls. On Tuesday, the Cougars were ranked 7th in the USA Today Coaches Poll, jumping from 13th in the preseason version of the weekly poll voted on by FBS head coaches.

Houston beat OU 33-23 in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff on Saturday to help them rise in the rankings. The Sooners dropped to 13th from 3rd after their loss.

Texas as a state had a good week in college football and in the polls.

TCU (12), Baylor (19), Texas (20) and Texas A&M (24) all in the top 25 this week.  Texas and Texas A&M were not ranked in the preseason rankings.

Alabama remained at No. 1 after their win over USC in the opening weekend.
