HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) — Editor’s Note: Camp Confidential will feature daily news and notes throughout Texans training camp. See All Other Camp Confidentials.

Here are the notes, quotes, and need-to-know information from Texans training camp on Friday, Aug. 26.

>> Bill O’Brien did not want to elabaorate on the Ian Rapoport report regarding the season ending surgery to rookie center Nick Martin. He did confirm Martin is out and Mancz is in. More information here cbsloc.al/2bThsld

> INJURY UPDATE: Kicker Ka’imi Fairbarn was not present at practice as he continues to deal with a a quad injury. In addition Kurtis Drummond, Duke Thomas, Gerald Rivers, Derek Newton (hamstring) JJ watt (back) and Duane Brown (quad) all missed for the Texans.

>> The Texans offensive line appears to have a lot of confident in Greg Mancz as the starting center. Chris Clark praised the second year center’s preparation and ability to step into the role vacated by Martin “He’s stepping up big,” Clark said. “He’s making tough calls and he’s right, so that’s huge. I am so excited about what Mancz is doing and how much I’ve seen him improve.”

> >MISSING McKINNEY: Second year linebacker Benardrick McKinney was not at practice on Friday. Bill O’Brien said he missed for a good reason. Mark Berman of FOX 26 reported that McKinney is celebrating the birth of his son

> The Texans worked on red zone offense for a good portion of practice. DeAndre Hopkins made a nice touchdown grab guarded by second year corner Kevin Johnson

O’Brien anticipates that the amount of reps under center for Brock Osweiler will be similar to what he had against New Orleans. He indicated that there may be a scenario where he plays the entire first half.

O’Brien: “A lot of it depends on how it’s going, you know? If it’s something where we feel like we want to get Brock (Osweiler) some more snaps, let’s just say in the first half, then we’ll continue to play him.”

> O’Brien earlier in the week said they needed to improve their punt return game something they have spent  a lot of time on  throughout the week. O’Brien mentioned on Friday that the adjustment from college to pro game punt returners see a difference in the role. The Texans continue to use Tyler Ervin, Cecil Shorts III in punt return roles in practice.

“The punters are a lot better, the ball is hit much higher in the air, there’s factors, like in San Francisco—not here when the roof’s closed, but in San Francisco like the wind that maybe they didn’t have where they played in college or they didn’t have to think about it as much. So I think as we move towards the regular season I think all of those guys have improved.

>Despite an early miscue on a throw to Will Fuller which resulted in a drop/break-up. Brock Osweiler was mostly sharp throughout practice working with the first team receiving core.

>> The Texans announced that Olympic Gold Medal swimmer Simone Manuel will be the Homefield Advantage Captain and Coin Toss Captain for the preseason game on Sunday against Arizona. Manuel won four Olympic medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics includings golds in the 100m freestyle and the 4x100m freestyle relay.
