CBS Houston – The Houston Texans have at least one clear-cut hall of famer on their roster, currently, in punter Shane Lechler.
The former Oakland Raiders punter a native Texan signed to play in Houston back in 2013. Since then he’s put together three very good seasons.
Now at the age of 40, Lechler in the preseason through the first two games has still been a standout for the team. In the first game with the San Francisco 49ers booting an impressive 75-yard punt.
Last week when the New Orleans Saints were in town, Pearland native Thomas Morstead who is also a punter heaped a lot of high praise on Lechler.
“When you start hearing some guys say some stuff like that about yourself, it’s humbling,” Shane Lechler said of the comments Morstead made. “It kind makes you (go like) alright I got to perform again because these guys are starting to say this stuff and I got to make sure I’m on my (game).”
At 40-years-old, Lechler is still a top-flight punter and while he’s only under contract for this season, he still might have another few years left in him before he finally hangs it up.
Till then, he will continue to be the “G.O.A.T” of special teamers in the NFL.
