Houston (CBS Houston) – The Dynamo are in San Jose Friday night and seeking to snap a 20-match road winless streak.
Currently in last place in the Western Conference (4-10-9, 21 points) the Dynamo enter Friday’s match 0-9-3 on the road, but all of the draws have come under the management of interim head coach Wade Barrett.
Most recently the Dynamo played to a 1-1 draw against Toronto FC, and played even with Toronto the entire second half despite being a man down.
Three players are tied for the Dynamo lead in goals as Will Bruin, Andrew Wenger and Giles Barnes all have four.
San Jose (7-6-10, 31 points) comes into Friday’s match one point behind Portland for sixth place in the Western Conference, and are unbeaten in five straight, although three of them have been draws. Last week the Earthquakes defeated Vancouver on the road 2-1.
The Earthquakes have scored 25 goals this season (tied for last in the Western Conference with the Dynamo), but have given up just 25 goals as well. San Jose has been good at home with a 6-1-4 record.
Former Dynamo, Chris Wondolowski, paces San Jose with nine goals this season while Shea Salinas’ four assists are a team high. Quake goalkeeper, David Bingham, has helped with five shutouts.
Friday’s match will be the third and final time the two teams meet this season. On May 11 the team’s met for the first time in San Jose that saw the Earthquakes pull out a 3-1 win. Alberto Quintero scored a pair of goals and assisted on the other, while Ricardo Clark scored the Dynamo’s loan goal. Then just a few weeks ago, on July 31, the Dynamo and San Jose played to a 1-1 draw. Alex scored the game’s first goal in added time in the first half, but Wondolowski would equalize in the 59th minute.
Friday’s match is schedule for a 10 p.m. kick and 9:30 p.m. airtime on 95.7 HD3 and the radio.com app.
