Houston (CBS Houston) – It’s safe to say Jadeveon Clowney is a polarizing figure. Whether it’s laying out Michigan running backs, being the number one overall pick or undergoing micro fracture surgery.
The latest in the Clowney saga is the rumored casino getaway while he missed the trip to Santa Clara for preseason game one against the 49ers because of knee soreness.
That aside, Clowney wants to play a full season after playing just four games his rookie season and 13 last year, and is willing to listen in order to get there.
“I’m just going off what they want me to do. Got to do what they want you to do, and if they wanted me to play, I would have played last game. They wanted me to take my time and recover and do everything the right way. Take the right steps so I can make it through, trying to get 16 games in this year, that’s the goal,” Clowney said.
What’s encouraging about the quote is that Clowney was able to play against the 49ers, but was held out by the team. That’s not to say the team got it wrong. Playing it safe with an injury prone, first overall pick that is only 23-years-old is probably the best route.
The injury label will always hang over Clowney’s head until he proves that it shouldn’t belong.
