CBS Houston – NRG stadium this season will have a brand new playing surface. This Saturday when the Houston Texans take on the New Orleans Saints, it will be the first time people will be able to get a glimpse of the new field turf.
Tuesday afternoon the new UBU Sports Speed Series S5-M synthetic turf was unveiled, they are now the 13th team in the NFL to use this surface.
For years the Texans playing surface has been considered one of the worst in the NFL, with team after team complaining about the field.
In 2010 the Texans playing field was considered to have played a part in New Egland Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker tearing his ACL. Former Texans safety D.J. Swearinger also once shared that linebacker Jadeveon Clowney tore his meniscus because of the field.
Last year the Texans moved away from the grass tray system after the Kansas City Chiefs complained about the field, they replaced it with a backup artificial turf for the rest of the season.
