HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Rockets will open the regular season against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, October 26 as the NBA announced the 2016-17 league-wide schedule on Thursday afternoon.
The Rockets will host the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday, October 30 in the second half of a home-and-home series for their regular season home opener at Toyota Center.
The Rockets will play just one game at Toyota Center in their first eight games. After their home opener against the Mavericks, the Rockets will begin a five game road trip on Tuesday, November 1 against the defending NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
In that first extended road trip, the Rockets will aldo travel to Atlanta on November 5th to face former center Dwight Howard and the Hawks. It will be the Rockets only visit to Phillips Arena.
The Rockets don’t host the defending Western Conference champion Warriors for a game until after January 1. The team that has eliminated the Rockets the previous two post seasons makes their first trip to Toyota Center on Friday January 20.
The Rockets finished the 2015-16 season 41-41 and were eliminated in the opening round of the post season. The team said goodbye to starting center Dwight Howard and added forward Ryan Anderson and guard Eric Gordon via free agency.
