HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Astros have sent right-handed pitcher Scott Feldman to the Toronto Blue Jays for minor league right-handed pitcher Lupe Chavez Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced Monday before the Major league Baseball trade deadline.
Chavez, 18, is 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA (6ER/32IP) in six starts this season for the Rookie Level Gulf Coast League Blue Jays. He has allowed just 29 hits and four walks in his 32.0 innings of work this season good for a 1.03 WHIP. From Sinaloa, Mexico, Chavez is in his second professional season after signing with the Blue Jays in July of 2014. He currently has an 11-3 record and a 2.41 ERA (25ER/93.1IP) in 20 games (19 starts) in his two years of professional baseball.
Feldman, 33, has gone 5-3 with a 2.90 ERA (20ER/62IP) in 26 games (five starts) for the Astros this season.
With the removal of Feldman, the Astros now have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
The Astros will play the Blue Jays Monday night at Minute Maid park.
