Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Texans made it official what many knew was coming, J.J. Watt was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list on Monday. Watt is recovering from back surgery he underwent on Wednesday.
What this means for Watt is that he’s not able to participate in practice for the Texans during training camp, but he can work on his rehab on the side with trainers and doctors. A player on the PUP list can be removed at any time during training camp. Once removed from the PUP list a player can not be placed back on the PUP list. If a player stays on the PUP list for the regular season he must sit out the first six weeks of the season, minimum.
Watt did take to twitter on Sunday to tell fans “thank you” and that he’d be back on the field “very soon.”
The Texans also added Pro-Bowl tackle Duane Brown on the PUP list as well. Brown is coming back from a quad injury he suffered that ended his season in week 17 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Also on the PUP list, tackle Jeff Adams, safety Lonnie Ballentine and cornerback Cleveland Wallace III.
The Texans also announced that they signed rookie free agent Quenton Bundrage from Iowa State. They released rookie wide receiver Richard Mullaney in a corresponding move.
