After some reports on social media made the rounds during the Major League Baseball All-Star game that the Houston Astros could call up top prospect Alex Bregman from AAA Fresno as soon as this weekend those rumors were denied by Astros manager AJ Hinch on Wednesday.
Bregman is hitting .389 with 5 home runs and 14 RBI in 8 games with the Grizzlies since being called up from AA Corpus Christi. Bregman has yet to play anywhere but shortstop for the Grizzlies and the Astros currently have reigning AL Rookie Of The Year award winner Carlos Correa playing there and hitting third in their lineup.
Bregman also somewhat confirmed he is not going to be joining the big league team right now with a tweet early Wednesday morning.
SportsRadio 610’s Jeremy Branham points out:
Astros GM Jeff Lunhow did tell Mike Meltser and Seth Payne on Mad Radio last week that the Astros want to see how Bregman does failing for a little at AAA Fresno before giving him the call-up to the Show.
