HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) – After missing the team’s season-clinching win against the Jaguars, Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is day-to-day this week leading up to the Saturday playoff game per Bill O’Brien.
Clowney is dealing with a foot injury that he suffered in the waning quarter of the team’s victory over the Titans.
Last week Clowney said he was taking it one day at a time but if the playoffs had been directly ahead of him he would be trying everything he could to get on the field.
In Clowney’s absence, Whitney Mercilus had another tremendous day totaling 3.5 sacks.
10 of the 12 sacks this season by Mercilus have come in games where Clowney has either missed the entire game or missed snaps due to injury.
When asked about the performance of Mercilus and J.J. Watt on Sunday owner Bob McNair was quick to point out their defense would get even better when Clowney returns for the playoff game.
Nate Washington is also day-to-day according to O’Brien. Cecil Shorts has a chance to play per the head coach but Shorts said Sunday he would be playing.
